About
Kennedy the creative

“What is art?” was the first question asked in Art History class in September 05, 2022.
I was a first year, overwhelmed by the question, and I struggled to even sound out words in the articles. But persistence replaced hesitation. The chapter on Hatshepsut became the turning point, I fell in love with learning, art, history, design, and all the greats that followed: Artemisia Gentileschi, Bell Hooks, Tibor Kalman, David Carson, Ellen Lupton, Tracey Emin, and countless others.
It was the expansion of my understanding of the world, and how art, design, and history influenced and continues to influence Humanity. The Art and Design program opened doors to critical theory, endless nights researching things I couldn’t even pronounce, tears, literature, creativity, individualism, and development of my practice as a student, artist, and designer.
The pursuit is simple yet boundless: to be a sponge, never stop learning, be curious and to treat society as my teacher and my inspiration.

Kennedy the designer Graphic design was something I have always been drawn to, when my friends had taken VISCOM in 2015, I would teach myself the programs they were using and spend late nights designing imaginary brands, and websites that would only be seen in my four walls.
In 2020 the pandemic took my job but gave me the opportunity to sit in contemplative silence, and ask myself what makes me happy. Art and design have always been something I’ve had to do, even when I was not seriously practicing.
I can feel it in my bones when something is “off” or an idea that is on the cusp of being great, I can feel when the colours are right, and I can hear when the type is talking in the right tone.
Art and design feels absolutely natural even though all my work is still on the cusp. I love the process of experimenting, and getting lost in the projects where time seems to stand still, and the silence space of my work brings me comfort.
Tibor Kalman wrote “I am in search of the simple elegant seductive maybe even obvious IDEA. With this in my pocket I cannot fail.” I could not agree more.
